“I Like Pumpkins” by Jerry Smath

We ordered this book from Scholastic last year, but it was too late to get it in time for Halloween. It was perfect for this year and fulfilled Lily’s picture book square for Building Bridges with Books.

I Like Pumpkins by Jerry Smath

Lily’s Book Report

I like the book.

I liked because the pumpkins are made into smiley faces.

I didn’t like because there was a crocodile had a pumpkin in his mouth.

What’s the main idea? All about pumpkins.

“Penguins” by Penelope Arlon & Tory Gordon-Harris

Part of the Scholastic Discover More books, Lily picked this book on penguins for the Animals: Non-Fiction square on her Building Bridges with Books bingo sheet.

She started to lose interest near the end, but it was awfully close to bed time, and we’d have a lot of interruptions at the beginning.

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

I liked when the swimmed.

I didn’t like because there was danger.

What did you learn? Their mom sits on them so the baby penguins can’t get in danger. They need to get oil from an oil spill out of their tummy and feathers.

My favorite penguin is the baby emperor penguin (pictured) because they need to be hold tight so they don’t get lost.

Navy Likes to Read, Too!

Navy likes to look through books and be read to, too. He really loved the book Things That Go. We borrowed it from the library. We’ve read it at least five times, and he will flip through the pages and look at the pictures.

“Silly Knock-Knocks” by Joseph Rosenbloom

“Silly Knock-Knocks” by Joseph Rosenbloom

Lily had a Joke Book square on her Building Bridges with Books bingo sheet. All of the joke books that I have are more of a 3rd or 4th grade level.

Unfortunately, she did not understand some of the puns or what the joke funny.

She did like the participatory part. She always said, “Who’s there?” and “__________ who?”

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

I liked because one jumped in the bath tub.

I didn’t like because someone got really sick.

Why do you think the author wrote this book? Because he wants you to learn new knock-knock jokes.

“Big Max and the Mystery of the Missing Giraffe” by Kin Platt

“Big Max and the Mystery of the Missing Giraffe” by Kin Platt

It has been a challenge to find an age-appropriate mystery book. She’s not quite ready for Nancy Drew. Fortunately, when I was looking through the beginning reader books at the library, “mystery” caught my eye!

Spoiler alert! Her book report gives away the ending!

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book. I liked that they were so happy to find the missing giraffe.

What were the important events? The king called Big Max because of his giraffe. They found him at the soccer field.

Why did the giraffe run away? Since he saw the soccer game on TV.
