“The Ghost of Wuzzleburg” By Lauren Cecil

This afternoon, Lily picked out a picture book to complete another square on her bingo sheet.

“The Ghost of Wuzzleburg” is based on a episode by Eileen Brennan and adapted by Lauren Cecil.

Lily really likes the whimsical nature of “Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!” so this was an easy choice.

Lily’s Book Report

Who are the characters? Wubbzy, Walden, Widget, Daizy, Birdy-Bird
Who is your favorite? Wubbzy!
Why is Wubbzy your favorite? At the end of the book he shouted out, “BOO!” with an examation point. I like him. That’s why he is my favorite.

“How to Behave and Why” by Munro Leaf

It has never been a secret that Lily has some impulse control issues. However, until she started school, it was something we just kinda dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Now, with school, her behavior adds up. Being naughty a couple of days last week, plus being naughty this week means a trip to the principal.

So, when I was asking the kind customer service lady at Barnes & Noble for “How To” books for younger kids, I jumped at the title!

No matter where you are or who you are, there are four main things that you have to do if you want to make good friends and keep them.

You have to be HONEST
You have to be FAIR
You have to be STRONG
and
you have to be WISE

And there is no good in trying to fool yourself. All that isn’t so easy.

Lily said that she liked the book in her book report.

What were the most important events in the book? Not to steal. Be honest. Be nice to other people. You should take care of your things. You should be nice to other people.

After we read the book and finished her report, we had a discussion about how she could apply what she learned from the book to her life, mainly school, since that is where she seems to struggle the most.

“Biscuit Finds a Friend” by Alyssa Satin Capucilli

Lily opted not to take a nap, so we relaxed and read a book.

Lily already completed Book It! for October, so she’s just working on finishing up Building Bridges with Books.

We decided to try something new and get a book on CD from the library. It ended up working quite well.

Lily listened to the book twice while following along. The third time, she was starting to read along with the CD.

Lily’s Book Report
Liked: I liked that he got dunked in the water since Biscuit was funny.
Setting: The pond.
How does Biscuit feel after he falls in the pond? Happy.
How do you know? The girl is smiling.

“In the Woods” by Akimi Gibson

Tonight, we had some role reversal. Lily read me a bedtime story!

This is the book she is reading in her reading group at school. She read it to Navy and me during his bath time. Then, she read it again before she went to bed.

“The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss

One of Lily’s favorite movies at the moment is The Lorax. We have rented it from Redbox twice. Now, it is on a Christmas wishlist.

She needed a book to fill in the Dr. Seuss square on her Building Bridges bingo sheet and a pizza slice on her Book It! page.

Lily is out of book report forms, so to make it more fun, I found a simple printable. She was able to color the Lorax after she finished her report.

Rather than type her report, the actual thing is just too cute!

*I had the kindergarten goal wrong. It’s only 8 books, not 10. The same page is used for other grades, too.
