“Junie B. Jones and Some Sneaky Peeky Spying” by Barbara Park

Junie B. is a 5-year-old girl in kindergarten. She will be 6 very soon.

Lily, much?!

Lily failed to see the humor in the book because she and Junie B. are at the same point in life. They talk the same. Their thinking is quite similar.

Kudos to the author for capturing the life of an almost-6-year-old so accurately.

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

What was your favorite part?
My favorite part was when Junie B. Jones was gonna buy some new cookie mix.

Why?
Because she threw the first one in the cart so hard. That’s why they had to buy a new one.

What part didn’t you like?
The part I didn’t like is when Junie B. Jones dropped her shoes in her baby brother’s crib to wake him up.

“Space! A Kids Book About Space” by Brian G. Johnson

Lily loves learning about outer space and was really upset to find out that they wouldn’t be studying that in kindergarten.

With this book, we tried something a little different. I bought the Kindle version. I read it through the Kindle app on my Android phone. She followed along on the Kindle.

The main problem we ran into were page breaks. I had to remind her to turn the page because she would get confused that I turned the page before she did.

“Silly Monsters ABC” by Gerald Hawksley

“Silly Monsters ABC” by Gerald Hawksley

Our local library was closed, so we had to look at other options. We could wait until Monday, drive to the main library, go drop a crazy amount of money to buy the books, or read on the Kindle.

Since we have been experimenting with different types of book media, I let Lily try a book on the Kindle.

She loved it!

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

What silly monster is your favorite?
The one that turns upside down. Ungle.

What silly monster is your least favorite?
My least favorite monster is the one with the x-ray eyes. Xoodle.

Why do you think the author wrote this book?
Monsters. They begin with different letters of the alphabet.

“There’s An Alligator Under My Bed” by Mercer Mayer

“There’s An Alligator Under My Bed” by Mercer Mayer

I like the book because he put the alligator in the garage.

The book was about getting an alligator out of your house. You never want an alligator under your bed.

“I Have a Cold” by Grace Maccarone

“I Have a Cold” by Grace Maccarone

(No picture. Lily had to return the book to the school library.)

We have been working on using complete sentences when answering questions. Lily has also been learning to give a reason about why she liked the book.

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book because it was a good book because Mrs. Nahrwald said so.

The book was about a little boy having a cold, and he wasn’t feeling happy. At the end, he would go out to play.
