Another day of spending extra time with Navy. I can already tell that this is exactly what his little soul needed.
Tonight, we went fishing. The pond was peaceful. The scenery was amazing. The company was awesome. We really didn’t have much luck, we threw back the one decent bluegill that was in our bucket.
Navy was so happy to be out at the pond that he didn’t want to leave, in spite of the mosquitoes and setting sun. He also got some fishing time in with his cousin, who just happened to show up. It was nice for two guys to be fishing together, and Navy loved catching fish with his cousin.
Home for a ridiculously late dinner. We had not planned on spending that long out at the pond, but Navy had such a great time. I really hope we can get some more fishing in before summer ends and/or the kids go back to school.
Happy National Hot Dog Month!
Since Lily is at camp this week, we had dinner at one of Navy’s favorite places, Coney Dog Cafe.
Navy ordered his usual, a plain hot dog and chips. I got my usually, a Chicago dog!
It is so hard to find a decent Chicago dog, especially outside of a sports venue. I usually get one when we go to a baseball game, but I was so happy to find a local Chicago dog that didn’t come with the price of admission.
We both ordered root beer floats. There’s just something about root beer and hot dogs that go together. And, you can never go wrong with ice cream!
We haven’t been able to visit this place as much as we used to. Navy and I have made it our special spot. We’ve been going here together since we was 4 and in preschool.

It was a stressful start to the day. I couldn’t find my bathing suit bottoms. I had to run to the store to find new ones. Found ones I liked, and they were reshelved while I was in the fitting room trying on shorts.
I will save the annoyance of shopping for women’s clothing from a big box retailer for another post.
We joined up with Lily’s Girl Scout troop at Jury Pool. The kids have gone quite a bit with their day camp program, but I hadn’t been in 20 years. Waaaaay before they renovated.
The kids loved it. Both were ready for bed shortly after we got home. Navy fell asleep on the floor. Lily at least showered and put jammies on.

The 2017 pool season is May 27th- August 6th. We are open daily 12:30pm-8pm, weather permitting.
It has been such a gorgeous day. The weather was in the upper 70’s, with the exception of a couple of rain showers, it was sunny and warm all day.
That means the kids spent a large portion of the day outside. Bikes came out of the garage. Sidewalk chalk was out front. Their little lawn chairs are on the patio.
The sprinkles of rain also made the already wet ground perfect for playing the dirt and mud.
And, that is exactly what Navy did. Continue reading →
Hard to believe that the school year is out for the summer.
Navy finished kindergarten and will be moving on to first grade in the fall. He had a great year and is making strides in reading.
Lily is done with fourth grade. This year had been a bit of a struggle because more of the work required Lily to stay organized to get her assignments and work turned in on time. Her teacher gave us some great advice so that won’t be an issue in fifth grade.
I can’t believe that we’ll be gearing up for First Grade and Fifth Grade in the fall. However, we still have summer!
So many fun and exciting things are going to be happening soon, and we’re going to enjoy it while we have a break from school!
