Lily got a new bingo sheet today! She came home with 5 prizes and a book. All prizes she earned for reading 25 books! Proud mom.

“Barbie: I Can Be… A Pet Vet” by Mary Man-Kong. Illustrated by Jiyoung An.

We have been trying to pick out reading Level 1 and Level 2 books. Lily does rather well with Level 1. She has also been reading this book for a couple of days, which has helped with her sight-reading.

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

I liked because the pony got a cast. I liked that a vet takes care of animals and puts on castes, and check if they get sick.

I didn’t like because Nikki’s cat got sick.

“Ponyella” by Laura Numeroff & Nate Evans

Lily was very tired when we finally got a chance to do her book report tonight. Daylight savings time and skipping her nap made for one very sleepy girl!

When the Scholastic book fair was at Lily’s school, this is the book that she bought.

“Runny Babbit” by Shel Silverstein

“Runny Babbit” by Shel Silverstein

I had a lot of trouble finding a poetry book for a kindergartener. I looked at other Shel Silverstein books, like “Where the Sidewalks Ends”. It was 192 pages, so a bit long for what we needed.

This book seemed to fit the bill. It was shorter and silly. However, it was a difficult read with the whimsical language that Silverstein used. I found my mind auto-correcting as I read.

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

I liked that because his mom put up notes that he needed to do.

I didn’t like because there was a hungry dog.

What does the title make you think of? It makes me think of that he is so funny! Runny Babbit!

“I Like Pumpkins” by Jerry Smath

We ordered this book from Scholastic last year, but it was too late to get it in time for Halloween. It was perfect for this year and fulfilled Lily’s picture book square for Building Bridges with Books.

I Like Pumpkins by Jerry Smath

Lily’s Book Report

I like the book.

I liked because the pumpkins are made into smiley faces.

I didn’t like because there was a crocodile had a pumpkin in his mouth.

What’s the main idea? All about pumpkins.

“Penguins” by Penelope Arlon & Tory Gordon-Harris

Part of the Scholastic Discover More books, Lily picked this book on penguins for the Animals: Non-Fiction square on her Building Bridges with Books bingo sheet.

She started to lose interest near the end, but it was awfully close to bed time, and we’d have a lot of interruptions at the beginning.

Lily’s Book Report

I liked the book.

I liked when the swimmed.

I didn’t like because there was danger.

What did you learn? Their mom sits on them so the baby penguins can’t get in danger. They need to get oil from an oil spill out of their tummy and feathers.

My favorite penguin is the baby emperor penguin (pictured) because they need to be hold tight so they don’t get lost.
