Melty Monterey Burgers

I’ve been pretty excited to get a second box from Hello Fresh. I knew the burgers would be a good, simple meal. Everyone in our house likes cheeseburgers. This twist on a classic did not disappoint.

To start, get out these items:

Ingredients you’ll need to have on hand

Ingredients in my Hello Fresh box: Garlic, Red onion, Zucchini, Mayo, Balsamic vinegar, Panko, Oregano, Ground beef, Monterey Jack cheese, Potato buns, and Ketchup.

Mise en Place. I put all of the ingredients out on the counter with all of the items I would need. I’ve noticed that doing this makes cooking the meal much less stressful. I don’t have to hurry to get a step done while something else is cooking. I’m not burning or scorching something on the stove.

I love the red onion jam. It is so easy to make. Onions, EVOO, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper. It only takes about 10-15 minutes and requires little effort.

As for the burgers, I hate cooking red meat. I’m never quite sure if they’re done enough, but then I end up overcooking them. (Need to invest in a meat thermometer to make this task a bit easier.)

I set the meal up as a Burger Bar. It was easier for everyone to add what they wanted to their burger. Complaints from the kids where that the Hello Fresh box didn’t include pickles or mustard (both of which we always have on hand).

The zucchini did not go over well with the kids. I think that I’d omit/swap the oregano with onion powder or garlic salt. Those are tastes my family tends to like more.

This was our fourth Hello Fresh meal, and I’ve already been looking through their menus to see when we’ll be ordering next.
