First Day of School

I’ve been excited for, and dreading, the first day of school. I’m sending both kids off this year.

Navy is in kindergarten. It is hard to believe that he is in school. Not just preschool. Real school. All day, five days a week.

Summer is Over

I can’t believe that it is time to go back to school. Summer flew by quickly for us. It seemed faster than in years past.

Our last weekend of freedom, we really wanted to live it up. No lounging around the house packing backpacks and going over supply lists.

We escaped to the beach!

Saturday was spend splashing around Crooked Lake. The kids made friends with other kids playing in the water. It wasn’t crowded. The water was calm.

Sunset at Crooked Lake

The sunset was amazing.

Sunday included a picnic and swimming at Pokagon State Park. Lily made friends with a few other girls. They were doing underwater handstand tricks.

Navy stayed closer to me. We played and splashed in the water. He was venturing out a little further in the water, then we’d dunk ourselves.

It was a fun was to spend our last weekend before school starts. Low key and close to home. We just got to spend time together and not deal with the craziness of the coming year.

The Heart of a Child

My kids are always looking for change on the ground. Sometimes they get lucky and find a penny.

Navy was lucky. He found a penny when we were out running errands.

As we were walking to the can, Navy saw a homeless man holding a cardboard sign. He asked me if the man was homeless. I told him that’s what the sign said.

King Gyros

Since today was a chilly, gloomy day, we spent the afternoon at the main library. We explored before the kids settled on different activities; Lily on the computer playing ABC Mouse, and Navy befriending a little girl at the preschool playscape.

After that, we decided to find a new place to try downtown. After driving around for a little bit, we ended up at King Gyros across from Parkview Field. Lily wasn’t very old the last time we’d been, and Navy has never gone.

Motherhood Isn’t a Competition

Chocolate Tour at DeBrand’s

I was reading a blog post from a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) and how she had moments of depression. Not the clinical sort. Moments of isolation, guilt, longing.

Here’s the problem…

Every mother has that. You aren’t special. Be it stay-at-home-moms or working moms. We all deal with this at some point, to some degree. Making it a SAHM vs working mom issue is yet another thing to divide mothers.

We’re a sisterhood of motherhood.
