“I Love Christmas!” by Hans Wilhelm

This evening was incredibly busy with Lily’s first Girl Scouts meeting and some grocery shopping. We decided to just read a book for Book It! and skip the Building Bridges bingo sheet and book report.

When Scholastic had their $1 book through Lily’s preschool last year, I bought 2 of these. One for her, one for Navy. Tonight, we did a buddy reading where she followed along in her book, while I read from the other.

I like that the entire book was 85 words. A quick read for a night short on time. Simple, five or six word sentences.

We are going to try this method of reading, with this same book again. Several of the words are word wall vocabulary words.

Lily lost another tooth, so she got the Tooth Bag again. It comes with a book and journal that need to returned, as well as a necklace she gets to keep. Tonight, we read the book from the Tooth Bag.

Lily’s Book Report:

I liked the book.

What was the most important event? He lost his tooth by eating. Then he swallowed it. At the end, he got his treats.

“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle

To fill another square on her Building Bridges with Books bingo sheet and fill another slice of pizza on her Book It! paper, we read an Eric Carle book.

This is one of Lily’s favorite books. She has it pretty much memorized and can “read” is really well.

The is a lighting vocabulary word, so Lily was sure to point that the book starts with THE!

“Arthur’s First Sleepover” by Marc Brown

Every week when Lily comes home with her new library book, she always brings home a book about Arthur. This week was no exception.

October also started the Pizza Hut Book It! Program. Lily set a goal of 10 books by the end of the month. We have read 3 already.

Her school has another reading incentive based on Bingo. She has 25 squares, each with a theme (non-fiction, fairytale, how to, etc.) or character (Arthur, Clifford). For each square, she has to do a little book report on if she liked the book and answering a question about it (favorite character, the setting, the main character’s feelings, etc.).

She already has a stack of books to read this weekend!

Show and Tell

Lily had her first show and tell for kindergarten. She took on Rainbow, the bear she made at Build a Bear this summer.

She said that she told her class all about Rainbow’s magic. If you squeeze Rainbow’s hand, a magic sound plays.

She has another show and tell next week, too!!
