Our 2016 Goals

Each year, I make seemingly lofty New Year’s Resolutions with no clear plan I how I want to achieve them. They’re always the same: get in shape and manage our finances better. They also don’t last very long.

Goal #1: Go on adventures and eat!
We live close to a city with a lot to offer, not to mention everything in the surrounding areas! We have plenty to explore. There are tons of locally owned restaurants that we’ve never eaten at. Lots of festivals we haven’t been to. Museums. Shows. Events. There’s so much to see and do!

Goal #2: Get organized!
This is probably the loftiest of my goals for the year. It starts out well, but gets easily derailed. After we moved, getting organized has seemed impossible. This year, we have to get our act together. I’ve got cleaning schedules, calendars, chore charts.

Goal #3: Staying on a health and fitness track.
I started eating better and working out in May 2015. I ended up losing 20 pounds. I saw a running goal online, to run 2,016 miles in 2016. That comes out to about 5.5 miles a day. It would be a challenge, especially when the weather isn’t that great, but it would be interesting to see how I do.

Goal #4: Manage money better.
I always start this off pretty well, then something comes along, and I lose focus. I have a tentative budget written out already. I have my online banking modified. I have bill due dates written in my planner. We have goals for what we’d like to save for and purchase.

I think that four is a good number. Not so many that it’s overwhelming and easy to forget. They’re all aspects of our life that I’d like to improve and things that I want to teach and share with the kids.
