Motherhood Isn’t a Competition

Chocolate Tour at DeBrand’s

I was reading a blog post from a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) and how she had moments of depression. Not the clinical sort. Moments of isolation, guilt, longing.

Here’s the problem…

Every mother has that. You aren’t special. Be it stay-at-home-moms or working moms. We all deal with this at some point, to some degree. Making it a SAHM vs working mom issue is yet another thing to divide mothers.

We’re a sisterhood of motherhood.

Our 2016 Goals

Each year, I make seemingly lofty New Year’s Resolutions with no clear plan I how I want to achieve them. They’re always the same: get in shape and manage our finances better. They also don’t last very long.

Lunch at Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island!

Goal #1: Go on adventures and eat!
We live close to a city with a lot to offer, not to mention everything in the surrounding areas! We have plenty to explore. There are tons of locally owned restaurants that we’ve never eaten at. Lots of festivals we haven’t been to. Museums. Shows. Events. There’s so much to see and do!

2015 Review: As the Year Draws to a Close

As 2015 comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on things that have happened in the last year. Some good. Some bad.

January went by in a flash. It usually does.

February brought about the birthday of my sweet, little Navy. He turned the big 4. He had an awesome race car party with a Cars theme.

In March, we celebrated Lily’s birthday pretty low-key. We ate at one of her favorite Japanese restaurants. She loves hibachi shrimp and sushi. Not much longer, and she’ll be double-digits.

Lily’s First Broken Bone

image

Lily broker her finger.

Our insurance benefits started January 1st, and Lily wasted no time on calling “dibs” on being the first person to use them.

It happened while I was at work, but from what I have been told, she was running in the hall. Slammed into the coat closet door, and her pinky finger got caught between the door and door frame.

I will spare you how many times she has been scolded and had to “go back and walk.”

My dad made a Q-Tip and Bandaid splint for her.

A trip to RediMed to get it checked out. Thankfully a relatively short wait.

We got x-rays done. As they developed, even I could tell it was broken.

The doctor came back and told us it was indeed broken. Shortly after that, an x-ray tech came in to do the splint.

She was so exhausted, physically and mentally, that she fell asleep watching “Mermaidia” in Spanish.

After her nap and some dinner, I painted her nails to cheer her up.

We go back in 2 weeks…
